A visit from the bear
It has turned dark outside and the air is crisp from the day of rain. The moon was about 80 % full and it was a beautiful night. The pups where outside and barking like crazy, I went out to see but saw nothing. As I shone the flashlight into the darkness in their direction and could only see two dogs with huge rainbow eyes, I thought they look like aliens. They were excited and could not keep still.
I went back in and was in the bedroom preparing for bed and enjoying some cat time. We have 3 cats, that at about this time of night usually want to go outside. So I opened the sliding glass doors a little to let them know it was okay to go. But no one made a move. I started to brush them. It was almost in unison they jumped down to the door and created like a totem pole with nose facing the crack in the door. I first sat in amazement, then I laugh at how it looked like a totem pole. When in a flash all three scattered to under the bed.
Next thing is my partner is yelling “we have a visitor, it is a Cinnamon Black Bear.” He looked into the window and slowly turned back down the steps and headed to the back of the house. He walked around slowly, as with not a care in the world. He walked by my window with Saber about 5 feet behind him. He reached the end of our yard and before entering the woods, he looked over his shoulder at us for a long moment. Then he calmly looked forward to proceed on his path.
A couple minutes later we heard the neighbors dogs barking and our neighbor sounded off 4 fire-crackers . The dogs barked for another 10 minutes then as loud as it was is how quiet it was suddenly. I could not sleep for most of the night thinking of the dogs and how quiet it was. I felt worried about them yet I didn’t want to go and see, in case Saber was hurt. I did not want to see that.
I have thought about it lots today and I think this bear is strong and powerful and beautiful. He seemed to not have a hair out of place and he had no fear. It is like he knew Saber was a pup and he was not here to hurt us.
I shared this story the next day with a friend and she said “He came to share his power, strength and beauty with you. The spirit of a bear is mighty.” Well, as she said this I got that feeling of goosebumps, I have come to recognize this as truth.
I wish to thank the Great Spirit of the bear for the visit and I wish to welcome him and invite him to come anytime, he will be safe. And in return he must let us live safe and the puppies to.
Funny how I wrote of a Spirit bear not long ago, this is the post.
