Last Friday, Teege got his report card. For those who don’t know Teege, he is 13 and Grade 8. He enjoys sports, sort of considered a jock. Anyways, Teege didn’t let us know he got his report card until Monday eve. The report was not his best and I think he knew it and that is why he chose to forgot to tell us.

We start the kitchen table family meeting,

“Teege what is going on here, you are not getting the marks you should get?” You English 8 is a C-, you should be getting way better than that.”

He says ”

That teacher hates me, that teacher said to me, he wishes for me to fail”.” I don’t know why he hates me but he does.”

Da daughter says

” Well if that were true, your mark in Social and Science would be low to.” “There is something else going on, like, are you not completing your assignments? What part of English are you having problems with, because I will help you, I use to get great marks?”

Teege shakes his head and replied

” I think, I am doing good in that subject”

“But Teege, if that were true your marks would show it. Teachers have their careers because they want to help children to learn, and I think maybe he expects more from you and you maybe not focus in his class and fooling around. He is trying to put a scare in you, so you would put out more of an effort.”

was said.

” You know Teege, all threw your life (& this is just a start) you will have people in your life that you don’t like and you have to learn to use that to you advantage. You need to go to this teacher and ask him, what you can do to improve your marks. You need to start studying.”

Da daughter says.

(I was going to type ‘doing extra’; but that would be saying he has been studying).

“Well, I want to change classes, I am going to ask to be put in a different class, so he isn’t my teacher.”

Teege says.

No you should not, you have one term left, you need to put more of an effort into reading and writing, you need to use your computer for learning and not just games.” “We will help you, but you need to do it .”

I said.

Teege said,

“Well look at mum she is staying home and not going to work, why can’t I…?”

“Hey, that is way different, mum has been working for 22 years and she is physically injured; that is way different than your situation with your marks.”

says dad cutting Teege off. ‘

Listen son, we know you are capable of getting better marks, we know - you are way smarter than these marks show, and you can and need to step up to the plate.”" You are only really hurting yourself if you are fooling around and not focusing while at school. So come on, for your own good.”

So we talked him into writing, just write like 250 words to start. Start keeping a journal (well you know where we are going with this). So we set him up with wordpress and he now has a blog. Will he write faithfully ??? Time will tell.

Da daughter has been web designing for years, she has passed with honors a multimedia course, has done work on videos, photos, web sites, Etc.
Here is a link to her business site (if you wish help with webbing); http://design.reddirtroad.ca/
